Why a General Contractor?

A General Contractor (GC) coordinates all aspects of a renovation or build, from start to finish. They can be a company or person, but they are the primary point of communication between the homeowner and builders, contractors, subcontractors, etc. They are the one solely responsible for ensuring that your project stays on budget and gets completed to standard.

A General Contractor also:

  • Makes sure the building complies with all laws, codes and regulations

  • Is responsible for obtaining all needed permits and approvals

  • Is responsible for managing changes orders and dealing with changes/surprised that arise after work has commenced

  • Is responsible for tracking progress and budget throughout the build

  • Is responsible for scheduling all inspections

  • Is responsible for taking the homeowners wants and wishes and sourcing the appropriate materials and subcontractors to make them a reality

  • Takes your Pinterest board and turns it into a house

  • Manages budgets and money required to complete your build

  • Shows you where quality can be invested in, and areas where more economical solutions can be chosen

  • Is knowledgeable of all the subcontracted trades involved and ensures they complete their work correctly and to standard

  • Resolves any potential conflicts on the job site

  • Helps you pick out appliances and/or sourcing

  • Is responsible for the condition of the job site
